Tank Liners

A urethane blend flexible membrane protects under a chemical tank.  Chemical plant liners, fertilizer tank liners, pesticide tank liners and pit liners can often be factory-fabricated and installed by in-house maintenance and personnel.  With new tanks, MPC will put the liner under the steel floor and when floors wear out or corrode MPC will put a liner on top of the old steel floor and then a new steel floor will be built on top.

Featured Installation: Dutard Station Tank Re-Lining Project for San Jose Water Company

MPC recently performed a tank retrofit project for San Jose Water Company.  During the Engineering evaluation period for Geomembrane selection, the owner requested a 45mil Reinforced Polypropylene Geomembrane NSF 61 approved material. The liner material has a 20 year warranty and is offered in white thereby providing a higher visibility in the tank for maintenance staff inspections and safety.  The owner selected a 16oz Non-Woven Geotextile underlayment fabric due to the uneven bottom and side slopes that may be encountered from removing the asphalt liner.  MPC provided San Jose Water Company experience, qualifications and a design proposal to perform the re-lining work and we were selected to perform design, site preparation, fabrication, and installing a Geomembrane Liner for potable water storage tank. The contract work was to be performed without removing existing roof structure. MPC’s field crew gained access through a 6ft x 8ft side entry hatch and set up ample lighting systems to perform work.  The tank was drained and ventilated properly for work to proceed.   There was minimal site preparation required mainly to remove existing asphalt liner around top, around structures and column supports.  MPC Containment had to prepare a work plan that dealt with Confined Space and to provide adequate lighting and ventilation during construction of the new liner system.  The fabricated products fit into the tank and staged using a forklift and rolling equipment.  The Installation crew secured and sealed the liner around several uneven roof column supports.  The liner was mechanically attached around inlet and outlet structures and top of wall of tank.  After the liner was successfully installed, disinfection and filling and leak testing the liner is required prior to restoring the tank back to service.
